The GILPIN 2020+
Gilpin 2020+ began life as a year long celebration for 2020, but that went the way of most things! Some of the events planned for 2020 are still happening. Please check out the website
Ross-on-Wye and communities along the river to Chepstow are celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Wye Tour through the Gilpin 2020 Festival. Rev. William Gilpin visited the Wye Valley in 1770, documenting his trip with what is generally recognised as England's first tourist guide. The publication of this book brought more and more visitors who dined at specific locations, took walks to particular viewpoints and visited romantic ruins, making the ‘Wye Tour’ one of the first ‘package’ holidays. HRH The Prince of Wales officially launched The Gilpin 2020 Festival in November 2019. |
